we’re here to answer questions

It’s important to note that allergic reactions can vary in severity, from mild symptoms to severe asthma attacks or anaphylaxis in extreme cases.

If you suspect you have allergies or asthma triggered by household allergens, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare provider for proper diagnosis and management.

Reducing exposure to these allergens through cleaning, proper ventilation, and allergen-proofing can also help alleviate symptoms.

Signs of a mold issue and/problem include visible mold growth, musty odors, and symptoms like allergies or respiratory issues.  An indoor air assessment combined with mold testing can confirm the presence of mold.

Mold exposure can lead to respiratory problems, allergies, skin irritation, and in some cases, more severe health issues, especially for individuals with allergies or asthma, children, and persons with compromised immune systems.

Common indoor molds include Cladosporium, Penicillium, and Aspergillus. While some molds are harmless, others, like Stachybotrys (commonly referred to as black toxic mold), can be more harmful to individuals with allergies or asthma, children, and persons with compromised immune systems.

Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within our home or office building.  It’s important to know what you are breathing because poor indoor air quality can lead to health and respiratory problems and discomfort for occupants.

Signs of poor indoor air quality include odors, allergies, respiratory issues, excessive humidity, and visible mold or mildew. Having an indoor air assessment combined with mold testing can provide a comprehensive assessment to help resolve breathing issues that are causing harm to individuals.

Our indoor air assessment includes three components.  A questionnaire, a visual walk through of the living areas, and monitoring devices that monitor for 9 different contaminants.  When combined with mold testing, we test the air for mold using an air pump, or test surfaces using tape lifts and sterile swabs.

Formaldehyde is a colorless, pungent gas used in various products. It’s a concern indoors because exposure to high levels can cause health issues, including respiratory problems and eye, nose, and throat irritation.

Formaldehyde can be released from various sources, including building materials, furniture, adhesives, and certain household products, like cosmetics and cleaning agents.

Exposure to formaldehyde can lead to short-term symptoms like irritation, and long-term exposure may be linked to more serious health issues, including cancer.

Common indoor air pollutants include dust, dust mites, pollen, pet dander,  mold, and VOCs. They can cause allergies, respiratory problems, and other health issues.

The frequency of assessments can vary. It’s a good practice to have indoor air assessments done periodically or when you notice changes in your home environment, such as new odors or health issues.

Elevated CO2 levels can cause discomfort, drowsiness, and impaired cognitive function. Prolonged exposure to high levels may lead to more severe health issues.

CO can enter your home or office through faulty heating systems, fireplaces, stoves, gas appliances, and vehicles running in enclosed spaces like garages.

Symptoms of CO exposure can include headache, dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath, confusion, and in severe cases, unconsciousness and death.

Having an indoor air quality assessment performed in your home or office can provide valuable insights into the condition of your indoor air quality and help you maintain a healthier environment.

Here are some reasons you may consider having an assessment performed:

Health and Wellbeing: Poor indoor air quality can lead to various health issues, including respiratory problems, allergies, and asthma. An assessment can identify potential pollutants that may be affecting your health.

Allergen Identification: An assessment can help identify common allergens like dust mites, pet dander, and pollen, allowing you to take steps to reduce exposure.

Mold Detection: Mold can grow in hidden areas and release harmful spores into the air. An assessment can uncover mold problems, helping you address them early.

VOC Assessment: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from paints, cleaning products, and other sources can contribute to indoor air pollution. Specific testing can quantify VOC levels.

Renovation or New Construction: Before or after major home renovations or new construction, it is wise to assess indoor air quality to ensure that the work hasn’t introduced new pollutants to the environment.

Dust Mites: Dust mites are tiny arachnids that thrive in dust and fabric, such as bedding, pillows, and upholstery. Their waste and body fragments can become airborne and inhaled, leading to allergic reactions. This can cause symptoms like sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, coughing, wheezing, and asthma exacerbation.

Pollen: Pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds can enter homes through open windows and on clothing. Breathing in pollen can trigger allergic rhinitis, which includes symptoms like sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, and a runny nose.

Pet Dander: Proteins found in the skin cells, urine, and saliva of pets, such as cats and dogs, can become airborne and cause allergic reactions. Symptoms may include sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and exacerbation of asthma symptoms.

Mold: Mold spores can grow in damp or humid areas of a home. Inhaling mold spores can trigger allergies and asthma, leading to symptoms like sneezing, coughing, itchy or watery eyes, and wheezing.

Cockroach Allergens: Cockroach droppings, saliva, and body parts contain allergenic proteins. Exposure to these allergens can lead to allergic reactions, especially in urban areas where cockroaches are prevalent. Symptoms may include wheezing, coughing, and a stuffy or runny nose.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): VOCs can be emitted from household products like paints, cleaning agents, and air fresheners. They can irritate the respiratory system and cause symptoms like throat irritation, coughing, and shortness of breath, particularly in individuals with chemical sensitivities.

Particulate Matter/Dust: Particles in household dust can include a mix of allergens such as dust mites, pollen, pet dander, and mold spores. Inhaling these particles can cause allergic reactions and respiratory symptoms.
